Info on 1970's Dawes Galaxy serial numbers..

A pal has just begun a restoration on a 70's Dawes Galaxy. It features a Stronglight single ring chainset, a 5 speed f/w, and a Suntour rear mech that bears a Feb '77 code (TB).
Here's the serial number - AH 2909. Anyone know the Dawes numbers? Thanks.

I know that a lot of the Dawes records are lost, I fear yours will be one of them.

Thanks for that.. I was able to get an approximate dating from the good old Suntour code anyway. I was just interested really, and it's my pal's project amyway. Think I also wanted to show him how much knowledge is bouncing around on the site. Got your info amyway! It's a short number compared to some of my Taiwanese mtb frames, they nearly circumnavigate the bb.

My Dawes Galaxy serial number is F5110. Think it is from the early seventies. Maybe we should start collecting Dawes serial numbers and see if we can make sense of the code.

Thanks.. I'm not volunteering to curate the numbers, that's a job for the real Dawes obsessive! I don't even have a "proper" road bike up and running now, just a couple of nice frames..

PB1093 - Almost certainly 1983
AD7592 - Very likely 1984

Good on ya! The letter code seems a bit random, if my pal's is '77ish and is AH, and yours is '84ish and AD.
I won't be carrying a little mirror to check all the Dawes bikes I see in Colchester bike racks, apologies..
