Folks, got a set of Indy SL forks, internals would appear to be toast, looking for advice to strip them. Top caps came off ok and top springs came out with help but nothing else will budge. There is what appears to be a plastic spacer next and I presume elastomer below that but no matter what I try I cannot remove anything further.

Your advice/experience/suggestions will be much appreciated

I had exactly the same - the plastic rod swells in the stantions - it was a bastard to get you and required a lot of work - when they did come they sure as hell wouldn’t go back in, rather like a cork

I used the J bend on two spikes to act as pullers until they came up far enough th use two screw drivers to simultaneously pry the rods out

Re:

Well good to hear they’re potentially not a complete write off. No actual clues unfortunately for how to get the next bit out. Watched a guy dismantle a not stuck set of different forks, didn’t really help unfortunately.

I’m thinking maybe a freshly boiled kettle of water down the inside of the leg might help and then just the same pliers method as before might work.

I hooked mine out as there is a lip underneath the top flat part of the section that protrudes up in the springs that you have already removed which allowed enough purchase to ease them upwards a few mm at a time.

That and plenty of oil to lub it’s slow slow travel - took best part of thirty mines a leg but damage was minimal and left them intact, I’ve since sanded them down as bizarrely it’s only one out of the two sliders on each rod that swells the lower ones were fine

Replacements are available on the bay but not cheap

Daft as it sounds - two cut down old spokes (bent J end) and two pliers to grip and pull them with

As there are four slots on the plastic slider thing you can alternate and ensure it comes up level
