Do they just make them up?
This is for some pedals from the US.

🙄

What is the original value (of the pedals) that was charged on?

At least the chances of me spending money I shouldn't on bikes/parts are reduced by only being able to buy from the UK.

Hi ,
I was charged double the value of a frame I bought from Belgium. Then I printed a border force claims form off. This was sent to a secret society called HMRC Border Force Coventry . They act along similar lines to the Spanish Inquisition and are about as accountable . Six weeks later they requested my bank details via two of the same letters landing on my door step in the space of three days . These lads produce so much paper work the Amazon Jungle is finished . Welcome to Brexit which for some strange reason also has altered trading arrangements with the U S A .
No apologies for being over charged from HMRC, Its a bad joke.

And China E.g. Aliexpress, is now always 20% more expensive.

I’ve just stopped buying from the States, it’s just not worth it

Including shipping they were about £240. I should have sent them to my pal over there then asked him to send them on instead of them going to the ParcelForce depot, aka ‘we’ll have your pants down in a quickstick then peg the shit out of you’ depot. Must remember next time.🙄

Put simply, they are putting VAT on everything. In theory it was always due, now they are bothering to collect it.

It really is a p!sstake. I particularly object to Parcel Force adding £12 just to collect the duty. )I think Royal Mail charge £8 - why the difference?)

I just shipped a retro MTB to the US. Valued >£700 and fully insured. When I asked the buyer how to declare it, I was told to declare full amount. The US don’t apply fees for old tat even if it’s $1000 worth (albeit I marked it as a gift - not sure what difference that might make). FedEx collected it from my doorstep at midday Wednesday; it was delivered at midday today, in New Jersey (local time).
Similarly, I imported a retro MTB pet from Japan last week. I asked seller to use FedEx. It was marked as gift but value was >£300 so I knew a customs bill was forthcoming. Duly so, FedEx emailed and texted me the bill ~ £70 a few days later. Then to my surprise the part arrived at my door a day after that. I still haven’t (and don’t intent to) pay that £70.
FedEx FTW.
