Guys, earlier today I was on the For Sale forum and noticed a "Gold Trader" called Martin advertising a Syncros bar and stem for sale.I was the first to answer the post and I got dibs on the stem depending on steerer size, He replied and I PM'd to tell him I'd take it and waited all afternoon for his paypal addy. I sent another PM and also left a message on the forum reminding him I wanted the stem and was waiting to hear from him re payment. At no time did he mention anyone else was interested. Eventually he informed me that the stem was dibbed p/p ! All this time there was no other posts on the ad and I'm really pissed off as I thought once you dibbed and PM'd about payment, the deal was practically done? Have a look for yourselves and let me know if I'm in the right or overreacting. Never had a prob like this before on Retrobike.

Could of been dibbed via PM before you got in there.

Either way at the end of the day it is up to the seller how "dibs" are treated, whether any honor is given to them or not. I think it says Dibs are non enforceable or some such in the rules.

suppose it is really up to the seller who he sells to, money in the paypal account is my criteria but I will generally hold onto an item for a while if someone dibs either by pm or thread-

sometimes if english is not your first toungue then miscommunications can happen- seems strange as martin is a top bloke, sure this was not malicious.

Totally agree with Gazz.

Dibs are at the sellers discretion. Personally I give 24 hour dibs, at PM request.

Problem is that when he replied to my Q there was no mention of anyone else ?

...he may have had 3 folk sniffing round it but nothing concrete or a plethera of other reasons, why not pm him I'm sure he can explain his thinking.

It seems a bit rough to have a go on a thread without his imput.

"- Dibs are non-enforceable and strictly at the sellers discretion."

However it might indeed be that the item got dibbed via PM before you dibbed it via a new post on the thread.

I get your point also, but I don't think Martin meant any harm.

Some sellers do say dibs first followed by pm...that stops the sneaky pms with no post going up but it is upto him....
