If there was interest, I could probably organise something over here say late-ish June next year - there's a load of road and enduro stuff to do in the area, and downhill at the weekends, for which I could probably work out some cheap tickets (I work for the lifts in Les Saisies). Accommodation should be relatively easy and cheap to come by at that point as well.

Hi all - I was going to get some sample agendas up today but my head is in the wrong place. Our little cat Posie died today and I am all over the place. Organisation will be beyond me until tomorrow I suspect.
Brieflyh though I may be coming around to the piggybacking the event kind of Idea, as I want to open it up to as many people as possible. I have some solid ideas now, but I just need to wibble a bit first. I'll talk some nonsense on another thread and come back to this tomorrow. Cheers for all your input folks, it's very appreciated.

There are 2 events that I go to every year that would be very receptive to this kind of thing.
Bontrager Twentyfour12 is a brilliant weekend, with free camping for those not riding, a very retro-friendly course and great facilities.
The Big Bike Bash is less about the riding, and more about the social side. Cheap (and good!) beer/cider, a decent track to ride and live music all weekend.
Both of these are on the south coast though
There are 2 events that I go to every year that would be very receptive to this kind of thing.

Love the BigBikeBash vibe, especially the kids participation and all the other laid back fun stuff.
Wasn't suggesting the whole focus should be all about competition and show n shine Fluffychicken !!! I'm only thinking aloud after watching all these late night classic car shows in the U.S. There should be quite a few classes IMO, to give more people a chance to enter something. Too often its all wrapped up with some amazing bike that's either been restored like new or never seen a trail. Personally, I'd like to see a resurgence trend in Retro bikes. Location is always a hot topic. Maybe there should be one up North and down South.

I honestly believe it puts people off just showing their bikes thinking it's not good enough.
Just bring a bike/bikes and let people look at them, then go race then round a route (see some of the euro meets) of and old timer race them around for entertainment. Some displays of old bike stuff and I do maybe.
Then again you need to make it beyond Retrobike as it's hard to even get 20 riders to the ex-National/Classic rides now. People are just not bother/can't be arsed anymore (bar the few that just cannot get there but really do want to.)
I also don't think a disco tent is needed, that racket is not for me. Peace and quiet is much nicer and a beer.
My opinions of course and everyone is different, just too much difference for too few people.

I'm gonna have to knock it on the head. Too much work for an unwell person and not enough potential punters to make it viable, sadly.

I can't understand why you don't want people to show restored bikes ?
We all have beaters in the shed we ride and love but I can't see that anyone would spend their hard earned on a tank of fuel to go see a load of bikes that although loved are not looked after ?
There is room for both surely as for riding them then you can do that with a great bike too as you know I ride my Altitudes and did Mayhem solo on one of them. I replace the worn components though and touch up the paint here and there so they look great still.
Is it some inverse snobbery to be proud of owning something nice but letting it look unloved like a bloke who owns a Ferrari but refuses to clean it ?
