I gotta Idea...Retrocon?

Re:

Some fun races and a Retro skills.

Stick it in the middle of the Peaks. It has hills, middle ish of the country.
Plenty of land.

Don't put it down south on flat land as that'll stop the northern lot joining in.

If there's a show section please don't just focus on pretty bikes, I've been to far too many car shows where you see looks of pretty cars in the show & shine that pretty much have the same bolt on chrome parts, and the really interesting stuff is in the car park because it's a work in progress or the paints scuffed, or dare I say it it's actually used.

100% agree. There should be different classes of entry. Used custom spec, concours/garage queens, original condition and catalogue or some such and maybe best in show voted for by the visitors.

Re:

Sod the show part of it, just bring some bikes and enjoy what get brought. There is no need for a competition and being the best. To me a Con' is about enjoying and chatting and being apart of it.

do it in Whistler Mntn ... something there for everybody in the family (but - it aint cheap!)

Re:

Sounds like the old Big Dirty Weekender with bells on which is no bad thing. Having attended a couple of very well supported BDW's (Goathland being my favourite) I'd be up for a trip out although I worry that the BDW is still running, with a different name, but does not seem to attract the numbers anymore?

Re:

Watching Chris a proper Retro boingy Trek outdo Si on a modern bike at the trial lake ride was good. And of course the things Bombay boys ;-)

That would be the grounding for my sort of convention.

No idea if BDW still happen but our Yorkshire National is pretty much that, perhaps without the trials night bits and stuff, be good to do it again.

I think he's thinking bigger and more organised though. Bit like York Rally but for Retro and Vintage bikes and getting oldtimers of the industry and racing along?

Oddly as mentioned it may well work very well attached to York Rally, it has the space and Orange, Hope and Pace are not too far away (is On-One Retro yet ;-))

Re:

has anyone ever explored the possibility of expanding l'erocia brit to have a small off road spoke? pre 87 so not prime mtb but little acorns.. massive footfall

Re:

Whilst there will be much enthusiasum on the forum I expect the attendance would be relativly low :( I really think this should be tacked on to an existing event if possible. We could drum up a few more retro converts with the show and shine bikes and people always like seeing old metal on the race track :D

Maybe have a marquee in the arena of a big bike race with free drinks on the go to get new people in and chatting?
