29" wheels in 2004/5 and 27.5" in 2013/4 were also big steps forward at least in terms of acceptance. Then the mantra of "longer, lower, slacker" was chanted by the media.
More tyre drag and pedals which are always clouting the ground. It's called progress.

I'm still ok with 97 as the cutoff point, but I understand where people are coming from. I wouldn't really want to see it moved past 2000 - that's when suspension and disc brakes got fully sorted out. Everything since then seems to be just marginal gains.
