how much does rim replacement cost?

Good morning,

I'm interested in hearing the prices people have paid to get a rim replaced. I've got a 36 spoke 7 speed rear wheel with a very worn Mavic MA2 rim and wondered whether it's worth getting it rebuilt on to a new rim, or is it better/cheaper to just track down another wheel on ebay.

£30 to have a wheel built - plus costs for spokes and rim?

It's the same price as getting a new wheel or good second hand one I think..

Depends how good your hubs are, but £30 plus parts seems about right.

You should be able to reuse the spokes. If you line up and tape a replacement rim against the existing rim, loosen all the spokes a few turns and then transfer the spokes over to the new rim one at a time you will have a properly laced wheel with the spokes pulling at the same orientation on the hub. Put a little oil on the spoke holes and threads first. If you're not confident about tensioning the wheel your lbs should be able to finish the job a bit more cheaply than a full rebuild.
