Bought a set of xtr pedals( new style spd) on topline/cook bros. cranks.
Attempted to remove pedals but this is the problem:

1.xtr m970 pedals have a threadless collar with no nut on them just an allen key on the end of the pedal axle.(pictured)
2. My cranks are solid and do not have a slot or hole to access allen key slot.

ANY IDEAS?
MANAGED TO REMOVE DRIVETRAIN SIDE WITH MOLE GRIPS BUT NON-DRIVETRAIN IS STUCK SOLID!

HELP ME OBI WAN YOU'RE MY ONLY HOPE!

Probaby the most effective way would be to file flats onto the axle. Not going to do your pedal any good but I can't think of another option.

On the off-chance that you've forgotten or got mixed up - the non-drive side is threaded differently from 'normal' - ie. It's left threaded, and you need to turn it clockwise too loosen.

If you've been turning it anti-clockwise (like you would normally, and like you did on the drive-side) then it will be tightening it up.

THE PEDAL WAS ALREADY ATTACHED TO NON-DRIVETRAIN SIDE WHEN PURCHASED.

DO I SENSE SARCASM?

you 'sense' caps lock.

if you have access to a vice you may get them off.

SAVE YOURSELF THE BOTHER - LEARN TO RIDE WITH SPDS!

There, now that was me being sarcastic. Seriously though, have you been turning it the wrong way to loosen?

I've never used spds before so please forgive my simple question as clearly your a bit tetchy

on the outside end of the pedal where it shows xtr ..does that part pop off

to reveal a allen key part of the shaft to remove the pedal?

also the picture you've shown does show a nut between the shaft and the pedal body?

Undo the locknut from the crank end of the pedal body (these aren't usually very tight due to the aluminium thread) and remove the pedal body and bearings so you are left with the bare axle.

Then clamp the axle in a vice and work out which way to turn the crank arm to undo it. It's probably worth soaking the thread in PlusGas to begin with in case there is any corrosion build up.

You may end up wrecking the axle in the process, but spares are available.
