Hope Big Un’s

Evening all,

I have these two Hope big uns. Will be lacing up to some D521’s.

Just realised that one is Gen 1 and one is Gen 2!

Now I’m going to have to have them match.

I’m assuming that the thinner one is the Gen 2 and the other being Gen 1? Please advise.

Are there any differences between the two gens?

The smaller one is gen 2 and the main difference (besides the size difference) as far as I am aware was it had larger bearings(25mm id) so you could fit a 20mm axle with end caps that inserted into the bearings so they didn't fall off every time you took the wheel off, the gen 1 front had a solid axle for qr where as the gen 2 I think had two inserts that pushed in from either side.

Thank you. Eyed them up, the holes are different also so the spoke lengths will be different.

Been told by someone that I have both Mk2!

This image is a mk1 which is pre disc version. So I have Mk2 both front and rear?

Black is mk1 front and the red is mk2 front

Though I think there were some changes in the mk1/gen1 through its lifespan AFAIK the larger center ones are all considered mk1/gen1, while the later smaller centered ones are considered mk2/gen2.

Yes that’s what I was trying to find out. Appears the larger ones are the Mk1 and smaller are the mk2.
