Hollowtech bottom bracket components - do I need shims?

Hi everyone,

I'm putting together a bike that was donated to me.
It has a Truvativ Elita crankset and on the spindle, drive side, there is a shim, which would sit between the spindle itself and the BB.
I'm not talking about a spacer, just a shim, possibly to make the spindle fit more precisely in the BB.
I've got nothing for the non-drive side.
Is it because there is no need for it, or such shim has been lost?

Thanks

Re:

I think.you need shims if you are trying to use a shimano ht2 bb on a crank using the gxp standard (truvativ and sram). If you have a gxp bb they are the correct size for the crank axle.

As far as I'm aware, youd need a ahim on both sides.

Thanks!
That's a bummer because I have the complete crankset but one of the shims...

Re:

Thanks again.
I got an adapter that should fix the problem.

The strange thing is that at the moment I have a sort of shim on the drive side which makes the spindle 25mm. Strange, as the GXP BB should be 24mm on the drive side, not 25...

Anyway, I won't be using it.

Fingers crossed. I'm trying to fix up a bike and I set myself the challenge to make it rideable for less than £150 - I don't have much to spare
