High volume/collector bike storage ideas?

If you were going to turn the bars in that system, so they did not require an overlap, you could probably cheaply create some soft dividers to go between each bike, so reduce the risk of paint damage. I find the underlay that goes beneath laminate flooring useful for things like that.

If the system dyna-ti is describing is how I picture it, then that is what they have at the University of York. The top tier channel comes down as it comes forward so you can push the bike straight on - they are practical for providing instant access to the bikes, but probably not the most efficient use of space for your purpose (or cheap). I'll try to remember to take a photo when I am next there.

WIth the rail solution and bikes which are infrequently used, you could just leave a box of 25-30mm ID pipe lagging next to the rack to pad those bikes which are packed together and "less frequently used".

Ultimately though I think the real answer to your problem is to sell a few bikes, how many actually get used regularly? How many do you actually "need"?

What!? This is not in the spirit of RetroBike, when has need ever come into it? Honestly, this pragmatic and sensible approach is best avoided.

 ^^^.

I only suggested that option as it naturally allows for more bike purchases in the future, and who doesn't like buying retro mtb's??
