Help With Old Raleigh Team MTB

Retro Newbie
Hi,
I'm new to the forum,
I bought a bike in 1989-1991that sort of time. I was told by my local raleigh dealer that there were only about 250 of these bikes made as it was a raleigh team replica (how true this is i don' know!).
I am struggling to find any reference to the bike being made by raleigh, i know there was a stripped down version of the bike released for wholesale market but cant even find reference to that anywhere.
I have contacted raleigh direct but they say their records dont go far enough back to identify it.
The bike spec is as follows:

Reynolds 531 butt tube frame
Suntour XCD Crank
Suntour accushift shifters
Suntour XCD Derailiers
21 speed
Oval crank

Looking to make space and sell the bike but didn't want to sell the bike in general sales if the bike would be of interest to a collector. The only bike on the net that looks someting like it is a raleigh team dynatech bike (but its not the same bike).I beleive this bike pre dates the dynatech bike but i'm not sure.

Help

I would be grateful of any feedback.

By the looks of it and the spec. I'd very surprised if true. Sorry . There are team bikes here And they have the same paint job but that's were the similarity ends.

Good Hunting

Brilliant!

At least i wasn't imaging everthing, 1989 seems such along while ago
i was begining to doubt my memories.

Thanks for digging out the pics

The version you've got is a team replica and there were loads of those although its a great colour scheme

word from one of the chaps in the pics, there were 4 original team bikes. then replica's built afterwards.

So really what i've got is a decent bike from the time, but its not something that is going to be of any value to a collector of this sort of stuff.

Oh well, looks like the trusty old bike will have to do another 20 years service.

Considering the bike is 20 years old and been used, its been looked after and is all original other than the seat which was stolen and 1 new tyre.

Not bad !

There were a few types of team replica over the years with varying quality of kit with this sitting nearer the top end, so the limited numbers may not be too far off (especially as at the time the sport wasn't massive so 200 -500 bikes could actually be concidered a big run!)

The most common ones were the Mustang level team replicas which there were loads of, there were also 501 replicas and the 531 (this one) or the Dyna-tech and SPD replicas that could be special ordered direct (they were V.rare).

My Dad had one of these, and I brought it off him and it started my MTB obsession.

I raced it for a year and then brought a Raleigh Ravine from their Off Road range.

I loved that bike.....

If you ever want to sell it, please PM me :D
