Help to identify MTB frame

Hi Folks,

Can anyone help me identify this frame, please? Picked it up today mainly for the parts, but there's something about it I really like, so may well keep it in one lump. There's no identifying marks at all, other than a sticker from the Company that re-stove enamelled it. Here are a few pics of it, I can take others if it helps:

With huge thanks for any help,

Cheers,

That looks to be an asian made frame from about 1987, similar frames were sold by just about every company that didn't have in-house framebuilding - they vary in quality and the tubing used varies too. the lugged ones tend to be a bit nice than the TIGed ones. I did have a Diamond Back with that identical stem, but i wouldn't read too much into that.

Looks British, either Raleigh, Dawes or Ridgeback, definitely 80's. Keep it and ride it as it was intended :D

Almost looks like a 80's Raleigh road frame by:
a) head tube gussets
b) Rear seat stay tops
c) Fork crowns (gusseting)

Is that a 'road' crankset as well?

Couldn't say for sure, I'm not up on road stuff. It's a mixture of Shimano chain rings & pedals, Suntour rear mech and front changer and Shimano cogs. I reckon someone's built a bitsa at some stage. I like the frame a lot, it's grown on me, though I'm only riding one-handed due to a bust wrist (fun in four inches of snow and compacted ice :D I reckon it's best kept as-is, until one day it dawns on me what I want to do with it.

Road frame - yes of course ...

Its obviously not a road frame - its very similar to early Saracens, especially with that fork, which you dont see very often.

From the looks of the lugs and braze-ons and the cable guides it could also be Reynolds 501 (or if really lucky 531). Give the frame tubes a flick with your fingers and see how much of a clunk or ting you get.

Check the size of the stem, as it may be 21.1mm.
