Help me sell some vegetables!!

Dirt Disciple
Hi all, need some ideas!! I am produce manager for a supermarket and my central sales team and distribution have really really cocked up this year and our stores are absolutely flooded with veg. It really depresses me to think it will just go in the bin and I am desperately trying to think outside the box of who we could contact to buy it off us dirt cheap. At the moment I am looking at local stables for carrots, apples, sprouts and parsnips. I also will have an absolute ****-load of potatoes to shift on wednesday but I'm told horses don't eat potatoes! I would think pig farms but there aren't many in kent as far as I know.

Anybody got some lateral thinking ideas of shifting some bulk fruit and veg.

Oh and only the potatoes, carrots and apples would be OK for human food, the sprouts are gone and the parsnips are quickly looking dry and brown and horrible.

It's like an Apprentice episode!!

Homeless shelters, as a donation?

+1 for that.

Get some Z list celebrity to promote a carrot and potato juice based detox diet then bundle the root vegetablkes with juicers that didn't sell at Christmas and Bob's your uncle.

DIY compost starter kits?

If you have to sell it then try zoos or animal shelters, they'll probably take it cheap.

For the stuff that's on the turn why not organise a local x factor style talent contest and rather than have a panel of judges just give a bag full of softening veg to everyone as they come through the door.

My former inlaws used to take all the old veg off the local supermarket to feed to their ducks.... As duck is traditional christmas fare in Denmark.

just conceal them, down your trousers great escape style and drop them in the sea

here to help

Stick it all in a massive vat and wait for it to furment (sp?). 6 months from now we can have a big retrobike gathering at your house with homemade moonshine

Vegetable soup? Or give them to a homeless persons charity and make sure the press are there to report on it.
