Headset confusion - Kona Hahanna '91ish

Just noticed all the plastic outer rings on my headset are cracked, so a new headset is required. It's still got the original (threadless) Project 2 forks.

Can someone help me out with what size / type of headset I need? I do have a spare FSA UF Orbit 1&1 eighth" headset, but am assuming it's going to be too large?

Cheers!

If it 91 frame and forks you'll be needing threaded not threadless. Sometimes impact headsets come up on ebay, but may be pricey.

Hmmm - bit confused now - it's got a star-fangled nut. I thought that meant the forks were threadless? Only had the thing apart last month to re-grease the bearings - wish I'd taken more notice of the internals now!!

It will be a 1 inch Aheadset that you require

Sounds to me as though someone has already changed it to an Aheadset if you have a SFN

It would have originally came with a threaded type although I doubt it would have been an Impact, my Fire Mountain of similar vintage (92 or 93) came with a Ritchey I think or something similar

I would measure the steerer tube too. Check the size before you buy, think my 91 lavadome is inch an 1/8th, worth checking.

Yes, quite sure this time

It's deffo a 1" job. Looked at the Shimano offerings which my LBS say they can source, but at around £60, way over the score for my broke down old Hahanna.

Managed to get a Stronglight one on ebay for £12, so I'm a happy chappie.

Do I need special headset spanners? I've got one flat spanner on the other end of my Park chainwhip tool which fits my existing headset - didn't realise there was a specific tool for the job.... Maybe this is why my headset is cracked in the first place.....
