Re:

Chuck the towel in??? Over a broken chain??? You can't blame retrobiking, or any biking for that matter! Things break! If your car broke down would you give up driving? Buy a new chain and crack on! :-D

Re: retro-reality

The thing is, those of us who were actively thrashing the bikes-of-the-time during the eighties, are by needs now at least well into their forties (hmmm - this retro-mountainbike thing could have some ties to the mid-life crisis thing) ...

and forty year old muscles generally don't flex quite like teen-age ones used to, nor do forty-something year old bones heal nearly as fast.

Sad reality.

Retro-reality

I got my Ibis Szazabo, got it done quickly, and during the first week I had
-a snaped spoke on the tricky plastic rear wheel
-a flat tyre due to a ripped off valve
-the break cable kept sliding out of the cable hanger (Onza Chill Pill) no matter how hard I tried to fasten it. Switched to Maguras
-a Magura quick release brake in half.
-a defective dampening cartridge inside the RS Judy DH
-the repaired dampening cartridge loose all its oil again due to old seals I used.

Did I give up retro biking? HELL NO!

I repaired it all and now I`m having a lot of fun...
and a defective pedal bearing
