When you consider they'll ( usually, if you find a good one ) mask off bearing surfaces, strip the old paint and rust and that powder's a WAY harder finish than stove enamelling or an acryllic " wet job " as they call it then it seems sensible. I used to do loads of spray jobs ( 1 and 2 colour plus custom jobs ). I went the way of powder coaters after thinking about the cost of paints, undercoats, stripping, sanding, laquering plus smelling like a Ukrainian paint factory all the time.

Powdercoating every time. Try and find a friendly local one that will do jobs on the side. Going the DIY route is a waste of time and money and 99.9% totally unsatisfactory for lasting results.
Getting some Marzocchi lowers PC'd this week for a tenner. Add up the paint, prep time and fact it would fall off in a few winter rides if done at home and there's no contest!

Thinking about getting my S Works resprayed...
Had my commuter resprayed by Mercian and they did a great job of restoring it and making the threads etc good as new- but the paint chips off if you look at it funny!
Powdercoating sounds like the answer but... what about decals? do you get it powdercoated apply decals and then a clear coat as a normal respray?
Also do any frame builders use powdercoating as I need to change the cable routing slightly?

They always baffle me posts like these, Someone asks for help on how to paint and gets a load of replies about take it to the powder coaters etc, Maybe just maybe TallPaul asked because he wants to learn something new.
Anyway i dont have any links for you paul but there are plenty of books on the subject, I bought this one a few years ago that teaches you everything from prep to polish, types of paint, equipment to use etc
