Lots of noise in the press today about the new TCR, e.g.


Obviously it is claimed to be lighter and stiffer and more aero… but look at the back of the head tube, forks and seat post. They’re all D section tubes. How is this aero? If the idea is to maintain laminar flow and a stable boundary layer, why D section?

I’m sure Hambini said that to create a classic aerofoil shape is difficult in carbon frames as the sharp radius at the trailing edge makes it hard to drive out bubbles from the resin. The forks on my 2014 Giant though, are an ellipse, as well as looking better, I wonder if they’re better aerodynamically?

I've not read the marketing info, but from your description they will have used a kammtail design, these have neen used for several years to fit the UCI rules on tube dimensions and also to avoid the problems with compression at the trailing edge
