I took a chance,I bought the mech and will be fitting it this afternoon.I`ll let ye know how I get on.
I did the same with the rear mech. 99% sure it would work and i was sure i could make it.
Besides, you can speculate forever and not get it fitted. Best to go for it
The article i was reading(and i think its in the link) was how the rings arent thinner. So it points me to think(without any real info) that because the rings are the same and their spacing is the same, the thinner chain(only how much thinner :? has to be utterly tiny) that the mech would be perfectly fine and would run 10, 11 or even 12.
In my own tech data hunt, which is admittedly a rear and different but i do see in Srams compatibility chart that front mechs work pretty much no matter the number of gears.
My only concern here, and i think it no longer applies, is the length of the cage, as when it was with compact and 'Alpine'
That said
I was running a 9x3 with a 46/36t but i found the modern mtb X9 mechs couldnt handle the 46. I say couldnt but what i mean is shouldnt because i got it to work as a x2.
The X9 is 44T capacity and it just bridged the gap, JUST. Fettling was an utter nightmare.
So i reckon you'd likely be fine
The fact youre using the correct length of cage. But again ill add it might be down to positioning and fettling to find a sweet spot where it will just work.
