Hi guys......picked up an old carrera vulcan to practice on and maybe earn couple quid.

overall its cleanish and all there but was in bits.(it was free :) )

the previous owner had taken it upon himself to remove the casstte and hub body.
so I have an ice cream box with lots of bearings and assorted parts.

How do I remove whats left of the freewheel? Is it a screw on?
Presume I can pick up a cheap complete freewheel instead of trying to put this one back together.

Could just bin it all but the learning experience will be good :)

edit: changed freehub to freewheel.

Re: freehub help needed

That's not a freehub, it's the dismantled remains of a freewheel.

the simplest thing to do is bung the remainder on the wheel into a vice and unscrew it. Chuck the remains into a bin and buy a replacement. Those Shimano ones go for about a tenner. It's really not worth the hassle.

Re:

Normally with a free hub you need to remove the axle, Shimano ones are held in with a 10mm allen bolt in to the hub body. Is the inside of what's left got a spline? If so this is a free wheel not a free hub, quite possible on cheaper and old bikes. If so then you just need the right splined tool and this will just screw off.

Cheers for that.....managed to get the remainer off.
ordered a hg37 s.i.s 14-28 chain and sprocket to replace the tourney 14-34 mega range jobbie.

Nos £10.99 incl postage....:)

I know its nothing special but good practice de-greasing /cleaning fitting chains and setting up gears.
