Fork Suggestions - Orange Evo2 Rebuild

I've probably been out of the biking scene around8 years, and can't believe how things have changed and moved on since I last paid an interest in either buying a new bike or rebuilding my old one.

Anyway, decided I need to get fit again and started to look for bikes here in Dubai and can't believe how expensive they are! Well over £1,500 to get something similar to my trusty old 99/00 Orange EVO2! This lead me to decide to rebuild and retro-mod my old bike, which has led me on to a bit of a shiny toys hunt; Hope Disks, mechs, wheels and a frame respray.

I'm now looking to replace my Pace RC36EVO forks, not because they're no good, but because I need something with a disk mount.

As I've been away for so long I need some advice as to what I should be looking for. At the moment, in the UAE, the bike is doing road duties with some light off road across wadi's and rocky mountain tracks (quick rebound), but want something half decent for when I eventually bring the bike back to the UK and do more XC again.

I was looking at Pace RC40s but these seem very difficult to come by, so unless any know or have any for sale, any recommendations? The bike will be white with black accessories, so would like to keep with a black fork to fit in, similar to the Pace'.

Thanks.

Re:

The RC36 had disc tabs from the 2000 Evo III onwards. Or you could also get bolt-on tabs to fit a 1999 RC36 Evo II (it had straight legs, unlike the earlier ones), although you might struggle to find some.

Re:

What sort of travel were the Evo2s built for?

The Pace RC36ProClass2 has disk tabs, either 80mm or 100mm and are a pretty good fork.
Or there's summat like the RC39XC.....

I've been watching the Pro Class forks on eBay recently and they're going for around £60, which when you factor in a service is pretty good value.

I'd read reports about the disk mounts for the EvoII's not being very reliable, as they're bolt on, and also they seem to be very rare.

Thought if I was going to upgrade everything I may as well get slightly more modern tech in the fork department.

Re:

If you're in doubt about the disc tabs on the various models, you could do worse than to pm justbackdated on here and ask his advice (AKA Tim Price). He used to work for Pace and is now the leading repairer of Pace forks, trading as Fork English.

I'm already in contact with Tim who may have a set of RC40's coming available soon.

Thanks everyone.

Re:

What's the travel on an RC40 - 100-130mm?
I'd be concerned that the A-C would be too long and screw the handling.
Didn't the Evo2 come with an 80mm Manitou?
