For sale is a 1956 Short Wheel Base Claude Butler tandem. Note curve around rear wheel. Initially designed for racing. It has had one owner (couple) and was ridden until about 3 years ago. Has had updates as expected for a working and much-loved tandem. Brooks professional saddle on front. Loss of garage forces sale. UK pounds 250. Very nice, too short for me.
As for price it’s about right, although without having much of the original kit and having been resprayed with 80’s decals it might not sell at that price.
Of course it should be worth more, but unfortunately there isn’t that much interest in these old tandems unless they’re original survivors.

This was bought as a frame only, which was typical from that time. And yes, it has been updated with new gears and other kit to keep it on the road. Offers will be accepted. My parents are looking for someone who would value the tandem and enjoy riding it. So whatever you can do to get the word out to tandem and vintage bike enthusiasts, your help will be appreciated. It’s certainly got some quirky mods, what with the rear Canti/calliper brake combo, the head stem used as a stokers stem & I’ve never seen the geared crankset up from before. Cracking stuff.
