Fitting nutted calipers to frame which has Allen key mounts

Shimano 600 to a Vitus frame.There is a lot around on this subject but I just want an up to date opinion.Is it safe?what's the best way to do it.Or shall I just find a nice set of Allen key calipers

You'll probably be able to use the rear calliper in the fork with a long Allen nut. At the back you'll have to find another axle which is short enough.

The early 90s Shimano 105 callipers look identical and already have Allen fittings. Probably a lot less faff to get a pair of them instead.

One easy way of using nutted brakes on a frame that has allen bolt fixings; is to drill out the threads a pair of allen nuts so they slide over the nutted brake shaft and then fix them in the normal way, using the drilled out nuts to act as washers in the frame. I have done this many times without any problems.

why not just cut down the axle length to the correct size for the allen fixing!

Cutting them down means you run out of thread

Not all brake axles are like that, some have threads all along and if not a suitable die stock cures that problem too!
