I have to laugh about all the Fat Chance "verbiage", because my best friend for over 40 years is John Troja. He was Chris's partner & creator of the brand Fat Chance. Don't get me wrong, Chris was ( is ???) a frame builder, but couldn't run a business if his life depended on it! My joke used to be that John was the FAT, and Chris was the CHANCE (like barely any).

Oh gosh, I know about all the soiled laundry, and where the bodies are buried. But out of respect for a GREAT & iconic brand... I'm going to keep my mouth shut!

Most of the greatest artists in history and musicians were degenerates in every way imaginable but they produced a legacy we all love and many of our kids now appreciate too. FATs are amazing to ride and are beautifully made. You cant fake that.

How time flies. Thought I put this here. Recently purchased one of the kickstarter Fat Chance Yo's for a very reasonable amount and in the process of building it up. I'm keeping the rigid fork as it just reminds of of the old Yo's. Planning on a 1x11 and mostly XT M8000. I'm pretty excited and I believe my riding buddies will be pretty surprised when I show up with this bad boy.View attachment 845771

Thought I’d follow up my previous post. Before I ordered all the parts and built this up the member I purchased it from recommended I call fat Chance to confirm my build direction. Got the number off their website left a voicemail and the next morning my phone rings and it’s Chris Chance. He could not have been nicer. Asked that I send him some pics after my first ride. mostly First ride was on my local trail - very rocky and full of roots. Arms, hands and back were sore for days, but it was worth it. Not a bone shaking I can take on a regular basis but it’s trail capable. It was very popular in the parking lot. I think on simple single track it would be perfect. I’ve also done a couple of 20+ mile gravel, bike path, sidewalk rides. It’s perfect. It’s heavy, but stable and fast. Climbs really well too. Sent Chris the photos and he replied right away with kind words.

For me the winning point of Fat Chance bikes was their non tapered seat and chain and seat stays ending with the dome / bullet integration of the shimano drop outs. This makes all the difference on how the frames behaved when compared with tapered seat / chain stays frames. Coupled with huge clearance the Yos had when they were launched they made for a winning combination.

It's great to see that the early Kickstart models kept this design almost unchanged. Later models have drop outs that are not to my liking and make the bikes lose a bit of their edge. Having said that they still stand out with the rest of the frame details they have...

Good job with yours anyhow! the end result makes justice to the frame. Saw it on ebay when was selling and was really fond of it!
