Fat chance Grello Dupont color?

You might be opening a can of worms for yourself here.I was thinking of painting my last Cannondale project grello and did a little digging.Basically grello seems to be an un-specified mixture of flourescent green and yellow, mixed and sprayed over a white under coat. Some people mix yellow and green and spray direct onto primer, however this does not give the luminous effect.I think you will need a really good specialist wet sprayer to get the genuine effect.

I gave up and had the bike powder coated in Vermillion Red!

Contact Dr S on this forum.
He spent many years trying to perfect the mix.
Who knows; he may have a spare jar.

He was most unhelpful when I contacted him so I would not waste time trying him.

Hopefully this helps a little:

"Grello is several coats of 1-part fluorescent green plus 3-parts fluorescent yellow sprayed over a white base coat (mandatory for proper fluorescent "glow"). Keep in mind that all fluorescent paints and powedercoats are not light fast and will fade drastically over time in sunlight. Our old Formula Continental race car was painted fluorescent yellow in parts, and where there were numbers or decals, the color was far more intense when they were removed."

"The color was achieved by using flouro powders to tint layers of clear. The powdered pigment product, made by Radiance Inc. out of California, was quite popular during that time period. The powder would be measured out and added to the liquid clear, mixed, then sprayed. The company ceased production of the powders 10 years ago."
