I have had several different BB's but I have never had an axle that is smooth i.e no shoulders, circlips etc for cartridge type bearings. I have such an axle, in titanium, and some different sized cups so figured i would measure things up, get some bearings, press them on, centralise the axle, fit it and ride off into the sunset.
I have seen pics of this setup but do the axles stay where they should, even if you pedal strike etc? or have the pics been those of weightweenie setups that don't get ridden? . If it has any [cough] bearing on the matter; the BB will only see road/gravel action.
Any tips and pics welcome as i have seen all kinds of setups from bare minimum to circlip in the middle and spacers either side of it, between the bearings, and circlip inboard of both bearings, shells for the outer race inside the cups and so on.
