Early Adventure Racing MTB's What Was Used any Pictures?

Hello all,

So I am wondering if anybody knows more about the earlier adventure races that had mountain bike sections in its course, what bikes were used and are there any pictures around?

There is quite the overlap in dedicated MTB's being build and the start of multi discipline adventure racing. Did bike manufacturers back team in the 80's early 90's? Any ads/promo's?

Basicly if you have any information to share about the era of retro MTB's in relation to adventure racing please let me know!

Cool beans in advance!

Would love to know more about the early Mavic Dakar events if information turns up...

It was run three times between 1987/88 and 1990/91 as the Paris-Gao-Dakar VTT, but I think it ran separate from the classic Paris-Dakar vehicle adventure race event of the time.
Ran with teams of 4, organised by Fabien Cholley.

A few hours of grainy VHS coverage on YouTube:
1987: https://youtu.be/xLeIdt-WfXQ
1988:https://youtu.be/3MNq9RWrXj4

Had some good coverage in several bike magazines at the time, so I'll see what I can dig up in my archive.
Most of the teams seem to have been made up from privateers of French regional cycling clubs, rather than bike companies.
The Marne team still get together and have a Facebook page

There was a book written by the only woman to do the race Myriam Dhuit, that turns up on Amazon, Abe Books and such:

And a detailed personal diary report by Christophe Nicolet from the 90-91 race here: https://issuu.com/cnicolet/docs/pgd/12

Bikes seem to be Peugeot, Phillippe(?) and aluminium ones marked PF (Fontaine?). I don't think there was anything P-G-D VTT specific about them.
The MAVIC neutral support for this event launched the MAVIC Paris-Gao-Dakar branded models in their mountainbike range.

All the best,
