Dura-Ace down tube shifter

I really can't remember. I bought the pair in order to obtain the left-hand lever. It can be used in 'friction' mode as well as indexed. My ill-informed memory thinks it was 8-speed. The code on the side says "SL-7700 9S". So, you might want to google it because I suppose that might imply a 9-speed shifter?
