Dream bike on its way at last!

The finished bike is likely to get plenty of summer use so I'm going with 8 speed Ergos, Record if I can get them, but Chorus if I can't.

Good luck getting spares for them when the indexing rings wear out. The only ones I could find were 2nd hand from Mercian. That was what made me abandon 8 speed Ergos last year.

Nevertheless it should be a great bike when you've finished - I always wanted a Roberts BITD too.

But that's always a risk with retro components, and if I couldn't accept it I wouldn't be into such builds and nor would many others on this forum. I actually have a spare set of 8 speed ergos, as they're Mirage I don't want to put them on this bike, but if pushed, on they'd go. At least if I go down the Campag route I could rebuild the Ergos if they decide to die on me - if I'd gone with Shimano there would be no option but to toss 'em in the nearest bin! I'm also building up a reserve stock of Campag stuff just in case - one of the advantages of being that bit older with a bit more disposable income than I used to have!

Absolutely, rebuilding was always the advantage Campag had over Shimano. My problem was finding something to rebuild with.
