Wouldn't really bother me. Although I used to sense a fair bit of resentment/sour grapes from an ex on account of me having ended up with a PhD despite what she, having gone down the grammar/Oxbridge route, obviously thought was an inferior educational background, namely: grotty comprehensive on a roughish estate, 3rd Class BSc from a redbrick, MSc from an ex-poly. She did start a doctorate but never finished it; I was too bloody-minded to quit mine, regarding myself as very lucky to have got a funded PhD position in the first place.
