Piston press...hmmm I'll have to have a look at one of those.

Pumping the pistons out, then a smear of silicon grease around it, then push it back in and repeat a couple of times. That will help also.

A tiny amount of dragging but bearing in mind the pads are new I have been led to believe this is usual and they will wear in.

Dunno who told you that but it ain't true. Releasing the brakes causes a spring in the lever to push the piston back. This pulls on the fluid drawing the pistons in. Springs on the pads push them a way from the rotor leaving a small gap, 0.5-1.0 ish mm between them anf brake disc rotor.

No need to sand new pads. Check the calliper is central and rotor runs true.
