My area of Portugal has a very British climate (unfortunately), so until summer it's not easy to get out on my bike regularly. For this reason, I'm thinking about buying a turbo trainer, so I can still get a workout when it's too cold / wet / dark to go outside on the bike.

I've seen a few really competitively priced turbo trainers on ebay, but can find no reviews of these entry level units. Does anybody have any experience or knowledge of trainers such as these (see link below, for example)? I don't want to waste money on a dud product, on the other hand, I'm a cheapskate these days and don't want to spend more than I need to (for the price of a mid range turbo trainer I could get myself another very nice retro MTB, after all).

If you don't mind buying cheap, being deafened every time you use it, and having to bin it once the summer arrives (and buy a new one next winter) go for it.

Best to look for second hand ones from a recognised brand. The bearings will be better, the noise lower, the frame less "wibbly".

Do you have decathlon in Portugal? I got a fairly nice Elite for about 75 quid a few years ago. reduced from 150. Think i gave it away last year.

Go to eBay and look up Fluid Turbo Trainer. £70 May get you a second hand Elite one, supposed to be a lot quieter than the magnetic ones and last longer.
