Dave yates M steel cycles any good? Help pre purchase

Hi,

I'm a bit of a newbie in the classic bike world but been doing a little research into reynolds 531 and hearing good things. Ive come across this bike and wanted some opinions on the the specs around other components and the frame builder. It's going for around £365

Can anyone help?

Anything Dave Yates will be quality. This looks like an earlier one, and very well looked after. Shimano 600 all over from what I can see, so also a good groupset. I think if it fits you and is in as good a condition as it appears on the photos, then 365 is a pretty good price

dave Yates is as good as it gets in the frame building world, so it is quality.

before you purchase though consider if the £365 is all you will need to pay to have a useable bike. As well as consumables (tyres, cables etc if they need replacing), are the gears also suitable? Bikes of the early 80s tended to have bigger chainsets and smaller cogs than todays bikes, which may make hills harder work than they need be
