Date my Klein... No, not the 'date' where you hope for sex.

My Attitude has:

• Serial # A295
  'Klein' embossed on the upper headset seal
  A mitred (square crown) MC1 fork

What year is it? I'm guessing a '90.

That serial number is a 1991 number. The 1990 serials are six characters long and occasionally 5 for the Attitudes (BATnnn or less common: ATnnn)

The mitred fork is from the 1990 models, but some of which were sold in Europe for the 1991'. Most 91's in Europe had the UniKlein fork. All 1991's sold in the U.S., that I'm aware of, came with the UniKlein. I don't know where you got it from (originally from Oz or Europe) but it could have that fork in the 91 model year.

So, looks like you have an early 91 model.

Why would they have reverted to a more concise serial number in '91?

So, looks like you have an early 91 model.

The fork is almost certainly mated to the frame. I.e. identical paint scheme & looked like it had never been removed from new when dissassembling... I have no way of tracing the frame back to the original owner as the seller I bought it from picked it up in a 2nd hand store...

Yes, it is. Currently paint stripped, welded, treated & sand blasted ready for a fresh Dolomite paint scheme :twisted:

I have no idea why they changed S/N formats from 90->91, but they did it again a few years later.

When you say "treated", do you mean heat treated or the frame has been prepped for paint? If heat treated, how do you know it was done properly?
