Custom 1993 kona fire mountain

Following this, 987 canti's if you can get them.. To go with the SS5s.
Found a serial number yet?

Try some posts if you have them, Kona's can be an arse around this time as people damaged the Q/R area from over tightening, wrong post size etc.

(as above, why I also have a use and some shims to find sizes and a quick fix).
No posts, 26.4 fits.

I must resist the temptation to go stock… NO!

Change of plans… Xt front and rear mechs, deore thumbies(as usual) dx levers(they were sti but someone chopped the pods off) dx cantis maybe… I’ve got a set of mavic 220 built on white industries and lx coming🙂 gonna stick with Panaracer Mach ss, but might switch to tan wall. Gonna keep the black fade (but repaint it black, at the moment it looks awful) stick with stock bb. Bars… bars, bars, bars. Not sure on them. Gt bullhorn tickles my fancy. Haven’t seen a nice seatpost under 26.4 yet.

I need to clean the seattube, someone painted the seatpost and it’s transferred to the inside of the seattube😕

That’s the plan I’m going on, most of it is in my parts bin already.

22lb, not really, but with rigid forks, still I'd aim for 23 to 24lb for mid range Kona stuff.
Your tyres will say how light you really can go.

Yeah, stock was something like 12kg I read in the catalogue. Maybe a few weight saves around the frame. The thread about latex inner tubes has given me ideas…

Use latex if you want to keep pumping them up.

Use Air-B (or the modern green Panasonic? version (a latex-butyl mix) if you want to pump them up not so often..

Use very thin Butyl if you want cheap lightweight, but they seem to damage around the valve, or that could just be the style I buy. (match these up with lightweight tyres 350-450g and buy a puncture kit.)

Use the new-ish polysomething expensive jobs for silly weight and no idea how well they work.

I've not read the latex inner tube thread.

I'd be very happy if a mid range Kona from 1993 with midrange stuff was under 25lb. (even more so with front suspension.)

10 kg could be very tough.

Superlight tyres (300g), super light tubes (100g), no QR skewers (allen key), light hubs (XT level with Cro-Mo axles), 1 x 7/8/9 w/ SS road mech and road cassette may do it.

What's the frame and fork weight to begin with?
