Cruiser.....or......Bruiser.....?

Love the look of that. Looks like a cross between a cruiser and a freestyle BMX. I would say its a Bruiser-Cruiser, but only said with a very strong Scottish accent! 😜

I think it looks great unpainted, but more than happy to see it with some crazy-rad paint if you've got some creative ideas in your head. Need to keep that laid-back post 👍 it's integral to the bikes overall look.

Jealous of the your lathe. What one do you have? I used to have a pre ML7 Myford which I loved. Once you have a lathe it's amazing how much you use them, just because you can!
So would that be like an "irn bru cruzer'?
Oh yes laid back post is what makes it fit and work.....reminds me...thank you! ....it's sitting in acid stripping the chrome off...best go see what's happening there 🤨

Love my old lathe...it's getting better and better with fettling....interesting I've found out it shares parts with the first myfords! It's possible the myford started from the main casting of mine!

More like the Irn Bru and whisky cocktail, I quite like that. Girders I believe the name is? Personally I'd only ever buy Irn Bru if I had a cheap blend to pour in it. Overly sugarised pish but it somehow goes well with whisky..

EDIT: And don't even start on the new recipe thing, it tasted equally vile before.

There's only one thing better than irn bru early in the morning with a rough heed..
Tenants.....breakfast treacle in a can...a real restorer👍

I can get behind Tennents. Not so much the classic lager as their special offerings, but their stuff is certainly drinkable.

Irn Bru is bubblegum in a can.

So a little bit more done this evening...
Well ....bikes..... they're just a big old pile of bits bobs oojamaflips and whotnots right?

So I got on and made a few bits bobs oojamaflips and a whotnot!

First up....that compression ring....it was bugging me.....a bearing supported by... plastic......no.....no....no.
It's a short headtube can't see that helping so let's make one.....🙄
Could I find a bit of tube someone near in size? ......nope....had to bore it out of solid....not once ...not twice...(tw#t)...3rd time lucky!. 😆

Ooh you lil bugger..

Then I figured the chrome on the seatpost was past it's best .....acid bath for you....

Whilst that started doing its thing ....seat post clamp bolt.... Quick n easy domed head and a blind thread....why not! Nice.....smooth and clean 👍

IMG_20220905_202325_167~2.jpg

And now time to make a tiny little hole but very cleanly....I'm sure it'll be fine!

IMG_20220905_202606_132.jpg
Moby dick! 🙄

And then make a quick little ferrule to tidy up the cable outer and pop it in the hole!

Beer time.😁

If you make brakes, and those brakes are up to the standard of all your other home machining, you just know the requests will come flying in...

So prepare yourself for a lot of no, sorry's.

I like this bike. It’s not what Canadians or Americans call cruisers though. These bicycles in the UK are not like cruisers over here. Your cruisers are what people here convert to single speeds and race. A cruiser here is a BMX bicycle with 24 or 26 inch wheels or a modified one. They evolved roughly at the same time as mountain bikes and early mountain bikes used some cruiser parts. This is all from memory. At a recent classic bike ride the old time BMX guys brought out their cruisers, chrome plated cantilever 26 inch frames heavily modified with disc brakes. Here is a 1978 cruiser. 8DAC2DD0-9F46-4853-B817-0110292FFAE5.jpeg
Cruisers are also any vintage, or a modern copy of what could be called a “newspaper boy bicycle”. Cruiser culture is a thing in the USA, especially in California. 60F37353-5EEB-43C0-8E73-DD188FB5B1F9.jpeg
Anyway, a real difference in the cruiser notion.
