So what do you do when you haven't quite finished a build?

Start another ✌️

You might of seen this rolling frame elsewhere on here?

So it's a trusty plain gauge tange cromo timberline from 91 or 92...... Stout and sturdy.....and measuring in at a teeny tiny 14.5"...... cute! So Bob on fit with a bit of layback and riser bars for me at 5'10" it's comfy 😁

The plan?

Well there's two ways this could go....🤨
I have two visions......ones kinda lizard skin pimp style...the other ....hmmm it's how can I put it....rockabilly rocker style...😁
Which way it's going we'll have to wait and see!
Now this build.....I'm not doing paint first and going through the pain of making all the custom bits and trial fitting ...adjusting ...modding etc...and then suffering the paint fear that goes with that and slipped spanners 😆 ...nope!
Make bits first! And yup.....there's quite a bit of kit I'm thinking of making.
It'll be a pretty unique build ✌️

Best get started then !

Well seeing as I know I'm comfy on this set up....let's set the stem height in stone with a nice custom made spacer and top off the stem with a matching custom cap!

Start with a lump...machining both the top cap and spacer as one...
IMG_20220903_160816_345.jpg

A few taper cuts...and a nice concave face for top cap

Whilst it's spinning get it wet flatted with wet and dry....start getting a proper finish on it👍

Start of a nice shine!

Separate the two...and bore a hole for the steerer tube....

IMG_20220903_194150_136.jpg

Cut off the bit I want add a stainless cap screw machined and polished of course ....

And that's part one....done !

Wonder what's next! 😆

Well this morning I did a little bit of wet flatting of the stem on a sheet of glass ! Hoping to get it really flat and chrome like on the polish 😁 still got 1500 and 2000 grade to go....🤨
But it's starting to look Just how I want ,👍

Think I'm going to make an aluminium compression ring for the headset bearing..don't like the idea of plastic on this as it's going to get chucked about a bit this bike!
Might drill the stem for front brake cable and lose the fork mounted canti hanger I think.....

Cantis!?

Hmmmm

Never made cantis before 🤔

Loving this already!

But don't paint the frame! Make it all shiny-shiny silver with maybe a few pops of black....

Make it a starship.

A comfy, cruisey starship.

I has other shiny shiny starships 😁 one of which I really must get ready for next season as i haven't ridden it for 3 years now 😊

But this puppy could become an interstellar rock crushing pimp ship tho !
We shall see ✌️
Make the bits and then we'll see just how it needs to be paint wise!

You know, I would have given you a silver top cap if you had asked, though then I would not have seen your endeavors in making one, which i must say are satisfyingly fascinating to watch

Love the look of that. Looks like a cross between a cruiser and a freestyle BMX. I would say its a Bruiser-Cruiser, but only said with a very strong Scottish accent! 😜

I think it looks great unpainted, but more than happy to see it with some crazy-rad paint if you've got some creative ideas in your head. Need to keep that laid-back post 👍 it's integral to the bikes overall look.

Jealous of the your lathe. What one do you have? I used to have a pre ML7 Myford which I loved. Once you have a lathe it's amazing how much you use them, just because you can!

Thank you kind sir! Here to entertain 😁
