Creak Creak Creak !!!!

Been driving me mad for weeks - A creak with every pedal down stroke!!!

In goes a new BB. Test ride - "creak creak creak".
Strip crankset down, wash and scrub every component. Test ride - "creak creak creak"
Strip pedals and put in new bushes. Test ride - "creak creak creak"
Strip crankset down again and apply a little grease to all joints. Test ride - "creak creak creak"
Strip down and clean seatpost, clamps. Test ride - "creak creak creak"

Start to worry that my Ti frame is cracked somewhere, but could not see anything.

Anyway, on my last ride I had a puncture on the back wheel. After refitting the rear wheel - silence. Oh the joy for the rest of the ride.

Can only assume that the quick release rear wheel had not quite been located properly.

Either not aligned, not done up tightly enough or something in the mechanism is dry, splash of chain lube on the mating faces/bushes and wipe the excess off should fix it longer term.

Re:

I fixed my creaky seatpost. Not sure what was the culprit as i carbon greased the post and sprayed a tiny amount of wd40 on the seatpost /saddle posts and saddle rail clamps.

I reckon it were the bolts.

Re:

You would be surprised how much creakage a gear or brake cable outer sheath can make, either just flexing or rubbing on a bike frame ... how do I know?

I had the same with a maddening ticking on my Litespeed with every pedal stroke. It was a tiny bit of corrosion on the alloy rear axle in the dropout. Removed wheel, wiped both axle and dropout clean with a finger and...s i l e n c e !!!
