Colnago Master Pui Decor - to respray or not..

boggy

Retro Guru
Im just about to put this Nag Master pui decor (and my pinarello concept) that ive bought of this forum, into a box to send to cc finishers in liverpool for a respray. But im having second thoughts about respraying the nag. It is badly scratched under the top tube, as though someone has taken a knife or something sharp and just slashed at it. There are other minor little cuts and scratches but nothing as serious as under the top tube.

Theres a sticker at bottom of seat tube that says "varnished by Dossena Carlo". First ive heard of him and there is very little on the net about him other than he paints or "varnishes" bike frames. It seems a shame to remove the paint.

I would dearly love to recreate the paint scheme but apart from the cost It wouldnt be truly "original". So my option is to keep it as it is or completely rapaint in single colour. If i repaint it in one colour it will still be a master pui but i WONT be able to call it a "Decor" anymore.

Please someone help me to make up my mind. If i decide to keep it as is, is there anything i can do to help repair the bad scratches under the TT. Possibly something to keep the rust away as well?

This will eventually get a mostly c-record kit but with deltas (2nd or 3rd gen) and shamals. So either mae it look like "new" or keep original paint and give it "lived in" proper bike look.

That damage look like it was done by repeated knocks, probably by an unprotected couple of shelf brackets that the bike was stored on.

If it were mine, I would start searching for an air brush specialist who could match and repair the underside of the frame.

Look into the custom bike / car world, or even model cars / bikes / aircraft , as there are some talented folk out there.

Agreed, look like the rest of the paint is good. Mega touch up job would be a good option. Just need to find the right bloke.

I was interested to read this, as my Olagnero has a similar sticker which notes that Dossena Carlo used a mica pearl varnish.

I wouldn't get the Nag resprayed if it were mine; as suggested above a sympathetic touch-up job will make the world of difference.

Being under the top tube it won't be immediately obvious and a bike of this quality is worth preserving in its original paint.

I'll take "patina" over "pristine" any day: it's only original once!

I'm with everyone on this. Rest of paintwork is in too good condition to redo it all. So just sending the pinarello now and that really does need reprinting with bad DIY paint job and tacky decals to replace. Now just got to find a good local restorer of paint work! Anyone know of one in portsmouth or surrounding Hampshire? May even consider london

You have to wonder what sort of muppet would damage a bike like that.

I'm not gonna moan too much as I think I got it for a good price. But can't believe a numpty left it in this condition.

Touchup

I'm with the others for a sympathetic touchup.
(is it just me or does that sound 'wrong' )

Maybe it was from one of those cheapy car bike racks like those from Halfords etc?
You would be truly gutted when you arrived and you pride and joy looked like this
