Hi, this is my first post on the forum so be gentle! After searching for ages for a reasonably priced Steel Colnago or Cinelli, today i managed to pick up a Colnago, i think its a Master but i need a pro's eye to confirm it.

Brief History of the Frame and forks are the previous owner bought the bike new in 97" ish had it for a year but the chrome started to rust, having no luck getting it replaced under warranty with either the shop or direct with Colnago he decided to spray it completely yellow so he wasnt advertising Colnago whilst he rode it.

Fast forward to today and i have now purchased the frame and forks off him through ebay.
It was advertised as a Colnago Master possibly an Olympic. the owner states it was originally blue with a ton of graphics!!

Having got the frame back home ive looked for serial numbers (i know Colnago are notorious for incomprehensible dating codes) but there are none!.

Ive also noticed that it seems to have different rear dropouts from all the Olympics ive seen!

Maybe its a Master extra light ??

maybe its not a Colnago at all??

The straight blade Precisa forks have the number 440 on them.

can anyone help??

hopefully the photo attachment works!!!

many thanks
Kris

Hi,

I hope there are some knowledgable members out there who can help you. I'm confused

The lugs at the head tube/top tube/down tube look similar to a Master Olympic, as does the underside of the BB with the hole for mounting the derailleur cable guide. However, the brake cable guides on the top tube, the "fastback" seatstay lug and the rear droputs do not look like anything I've seen on a Colnago. That's not to say that it isn't a Colnago but perhaps it is a very rare one off :)

Sorry I can't offer anything better at this stage - I'll now go off and see what the interweb can turn up!!

Re:

I have no idea what model it is but thats going to make a lovely build B-) good luck with it and keep the updates coming ! :)

Yeah I know what you mean, I've got a headache looking at Google images of Colnagos

It is very similar to the x light but I don't know much about that model to be honest.

I've started nitro morsing the frame in the hope that the paint underneath would reveal some graphics, but it's been completely stripped.

I will carry on stripping it and get it off to the painters

I will keep the pics and build coming, but any info or advice would be appreciated as this is my first build

We probably need Saarf to comment as he's the 'Nago man, but it looks very similar to how I recall my '95 Master X-Lite I sold a year or so ago. That had stays shot in exactly like that and lugs that look identical (though mine were chromed as I think are all the std ones)

Hi.

I've just had the frame and forks blasted and the condition is amazing, literally unmarked. It looks like the awful paint has saved it for years.

Blasting has also revealed a serial code on the right rear dropout. 8A762

I think I've narrowed it down after talking to a few people it's a Master x light from 98'

Many thanks.

It's off to Argos cycles tomorrow for a respray but they have quoted me 8-10 weeks turnaround which is a little gutting but it gives me a bit of time to collect some shiny parts.
