Claud Butler Oracle, original survivor. Now safe & sound

Just had a chat with the Durham seller. This bike seems to have had a busy 4 months;

January. Offered up on e-bay starting at £75. Jimmy-s3 nabs it for £100, Retro-spud offers a ferry service. However this falls through. :?
January. Re-listed, collection only. Gets ignored and
February. Re-listed, but with a .45p a mile delivery option...thought I could get it delivered to a more local RB dude, so I placed an £80 bid. Missed out because Mrs Peachy wanted me to pay attention or listen or something and it went for £82
March. Previous owner buys it for £175!!!! gets it delivered up North but doesn’t have the space for it?!?!
April. I make an offer way under his £120 asking price and it’s mine ;)

Well someone made some money out of it! :|

Cheers Chrisv40 for moving the thread....

Well to be fair, it should really have seen all this coming ;)

You’re right there Jamie....

Right, now that I’ve championed it's minty-ness, I’d better get on with making sure it really is tip top before it’s “coming out” at Mountain Mayhem.
First job is the seat; it’s unfortunately got a scuff/split on one rear edge where I guess it’s been up against a wall but I swear the rest looks like it’s never been sat on!

One thing I can do is apply some contact adhesive to the underside where the vinyl has come in-stuck.

I did notice the post was stamped for January 1992, not seen that before.

There's a guy on Pocklington Ind estate who can fix the seat, not a cheap though!
I took my Saracen seat to repair but would have cost about £60/£80 although it is worse than yours, and to blend the repair in I would have lost the Saracen print on the back!

Nice one, I asked him about spraying bike frames a few weeks ago, I reckon he'd be good at it I've seen his work & he's a perfectionist for sure!

Picked up the repaired saddle from Stuart at HighFinish in Pocklington, https://m.facebook.com/HighFinish/

Cracking job, plastic weld repair of the split, flexible filler, then finished with rubberised black paint. Not invisible but very good and should prevent any further deterioration.

It’s also opened my eyes to the possible repair of some of the hi-end saddles you might see going cheep on eBay with splits in the vinyl.....
