I've been of a mind to pick up a Dalesman on my travels for a while now, but for some reason or other this hadn't happened, usual story; too big, too small, too old, too bent or buggered! (or was that just me?)
Anyway, inspired by @vcballbat's remarkable Raleigh SBDU it had me thinking I might have a use for a quality comfortable frame that I can just jump on to buzz to the shops especially with the current situation regarding fuel prices.
Now I know I could do that with pretty much anything I've already got, but...
1. Where's the fun in that?
2. I fancied a flat bar, flat pedal, pannier bag equipped, mudguarded (is that a word @The History Man ? easy rider that I don't have to faff about with.

Of course I want a modicum of ease and a dash of style and after being well and truly converted by @legrandefromage to the ways of indexed gearing I decided to focus my search on a post 95 Dalesman to get 135 rear spacing, up to 2005 when they (Falcon Claud) were producing a 653 main tubes version.

Luck would have it, an absolute minter appeared on the weekend for sale in the Isle of Wight, the '96 version with the 3x8 Campagnolo Mirage indexed gearing. bit pricey although absolutely original and the post was cheap, I contacted them and a deal was done, it's on its way..:D

Looks lovely.
I have just picked up 1995 Galaxy for the very same usage/reasons as your Dalesman (although mine is quite a bit less "minty" lol).
Enjoy it 😁

Brian Hanrahan springs to mind………….
Counting them all back?

Anyway…
I’ve had a dig around the “to sell” pile & I’m thinking I’m going to remove the original pedals, saddle, seat post & the whole cockpit inc stem & pop them in box for safe keeping.
Then replace the lot with Italian products to add to the original Campagnolo kit.
So that would be; Record seatpost, Selle San Marco Rolls saddle, ITM tall short reach stem, Cinelli flat bar, Gipiemme Sprint pedals and last but not least a set of (nearly NOS) Olympus canti brakes that did once grace the lads “Campagnolo Lotus” that never turned a wheel.

Something else I want to sort are some pannier bags, I’d bought a couple of noughties Claud Butler Branded right/off/drive side (delete as appropriate) bags last year and although they are very much handed I did wonder if one could be adapted for the near side to make a pair?
So I asked a seamstress work colleague if it might be possible, she thought it might but wouldn’t commit till I'd completely un-picked one of them.
Well I did and she thought it possible.
I’m picking it up today! 😁

Whoop! Whoop!
Such an excellent job inside & out, I’m proper chuffed!
The only thing she couldn’t re-fit was the outer small net pocket, but then I’m not going to need two of them certainly as I’ve never used it before.

What a great find and in virtually unused condition, what tubing is it? The dark metallic blue paint and bold graphic look familiar..🤔 I'm enjoying the more relaxed upright riding position that flat bars offer and the slight pull back giving a more natural hand/wrist position, definitely more comfortable than my MuddyFox Courier Comp with it's straight bars... looking forward to the build..👍

Reynolds 531st (Super Tourist) which I think means it’s butted, but has thicker stays and is thicker than 531c on the down tube & seat tube so it takes a 27mm seat post rather than 27.2, but still more refined than 531 plain gauge
