Carlton Super Corsa - full 531db frame (double butted), 531 forks.
54cm c-c square.

Built in '81, this was the last year of Carlton's independence before they were bought by Raleigh and Gerald O'Donovan, their lead builder moved to Raleigh's Special Products Division in Nottingham. Gerald supervised the building of all the top marque frames.

The Super Corsa was built with the same frameset as the Carlton Pro but less illustrious parts.. It was second in their line-up.

The paint has numerous scrapes and chips, with some superficial rust showing. The 531 decal is damaged too. There is one very shallow dent in the middle of the top-tube (I have ridden it for 2 years with this - it was caused by the bike falling on its D-lock).

Anyway, this one has the following - some apparently original, others, stuff I have added:

Wheels:
Front - Miche Superfast hub laced to Mavic MA40 ceramic rim
Rear - Normandy Competition Luxe hub to Weinman alloy rim.
1 hardly used gatorskin, 1 well used gatorskin with plenty of life yet and no squared patches..

Drivetrain:
Suntour Cyclone Mk.1 rear mech.
Drilled Heuret front (to match the chainset!)
Very rare fully drilled Raleigh chainset with 52, 42 rings (plenty of life)
KMC X.8 chain >100 miles
11-28 7 speed freewheel >100 miles

Weinmann 605 brakes with decent pads
Weinmann brake levers with cracked gum hoods - but they are fine really.
Suntour power ratchet friction shifters.

Brooks Colt saddle - very unusual 70s version with beautiful touches like the side binding and good rails (marks as you would expect but see the photos..)
GB seatpost and clamp (27.2mm and moving fine).
SR 80mm stem
Unbranded chrome bars
Cinelli cork tape (natural colour but quite dirty!) with a cut on one side so may need a change soon.
Bertrand Lyotard pedals with MKS medium clips and leather straps.

Freshly greased and adjusted cup n cone bb (can't remember what but it is quite nice and very smooth)
Rear wheel is very smooth and has been greased with new bearings earlier this year. Front hasn't but is still smooth.

Also included is a very vintage (read rather battered) grey Carridice saddlebag. There is a small hole in it, one of the straps has broken and is replaced by a humble zip-tie, and the compression straps inside are broken.

PRICE £185 collected Brighton / London or £200 posted. SOLD

Nice bike for someone.

Raleigh bought Carlton in 1960 and Gerald O'Donovan set up the SBDU (Special Bicycle Development Unit) in Ilkeston, Derbyshire in 1974.

Roadking.
