Hi,

I will apologise now for the stupid basic questions. but it you dont ask, you will never know.

I have purchased a Cannondale CAAD4 MTB frame (bare).

I belive (throu advice from this forum) from VintageCannondale site it could be a 2000/2001 model (there is only disc brake mounts - no canti mounts).

So am I correct in thinking the headset needed is NOT the 1.5" BUT the 1 & 9/16" size one?
Where do I get one of these from bearing in mind i need the cups and bearings?

I have seen a 2009 Bad Boy HeadShok DR80 for sale - will this fit?
Am I correct in the belief i can put 26" wheels with big tyres on (insead of the 700c x 32 it came with)?

Also if i resort to 1&1/8" straight steerer forks, the only reducers is seem to find are for 1.5", were do i get ones for the 1 & 9/16" from?

Can you get ones to fit that are for 1&1/8 tapered steerers too?

If anyone is interested i will keep this post going and show my slow build up into something - i know not what - yet.

Fancy maybe the Volvo / Cannondale blue colour - Any idea what this Blue is?
Maybe set up as a 1x10 - No idea.

Cheers,

If it's 2000-2001 it will require bigger size, not 1.5.
As for you're 2009 Headshock fitting, I'm not sure. You will be able to fit 26inch wheels with MTB tyres on your badboy though.

For old sized headshock bearings, cups and adapter cups to use a 1 1/8 fork my first stop would be an established Cannondale dealer. Cannondale used to produce a selection of these items. There is a specialist Cannondale shop that I've used online, I think it's called Querty Cycles? They seem to have a lot of Cannondale stuff.

I used to have a 1999 CAAD3 with a 1x10 set up in Volvo colours, it was ace.

I own an old Bad Boy which I bought 2nd hand. Very happy with it. It is a 2001 I think. It has V-brakes.
