Cannock Chase wire traps

Utterly shocking, there was a case of this at my local trail centre (Hamsterley) a few years ago.
Some buffoon had tied a length of blue rope around a corner on the downhill course.
It took someone off but they luckily walked away, it could do much more damage though.
There is cases in America of people putting home-made stingers and destroying sections of north-shore.

Re:

I'm all for destroying sections of 'north shore'. Some riders seem to think every section of trail should have jumps and things in.
Never think of the rest of us.

I'm not for string wire and things up though, that just manslaughter/murder waiting to happen :-(

Re:

Yeah, just seen this notice too. Have read other anecdotal reports of this happening in other locations too. Someone with very good local knowledge of the location must have thought about doing this, planned it and gone out to string up a zip wire. It's nothing short of attempted murder and the Police should be made aware of it. Remember a scene in 'Midsomer' when someone on a moped gets garrotted by one strung across a quiet lane in the woods, cue sounds of shrieking foxes and hooting owls... Regardless of "North Shore", there's plenty of rabids out there who actively hate us bloody cyclists. Ramblers, dog walkers, "get orf my land" types – could be anyone really. If these trails are also used by horse riders, then they and the horse are at risk too. What is up with people?

The law needs to make an example of the perps....soon, with long custodial sentences for GBH, ABH or worse. Seems it's mostly older dog owners. Put signs outside riding areas saying they are monitered by covert movement detector cameras and when they catch them get a big movement behind the media to ensure they face the consequences.

It has happened before on Cannock Chase. I remember reading reports about it in local newspapers about a decade and a half ago.

Re:

Are these the actions of a few random isolated unconnected rabid individuals or is there some connection or pattern of a campaign going on?
