Cane Track Rims

....bought a couple of vintage wooden track rims from Chris (Peachy) which I am well pleased with and plan to restore for an old track iron, they were sold to me as work needed on the lamination as some areas of the rim were coming unstuck. Would any knowledgeable forum members be able to advise on re-bonding the laminate sections ie: what type of glue to be best etc. I don't really plan to ride the rims but would like to save them and build up to display, any help gratefully appreciated cheers Griff

Urea formaldehyde glue? Sort of stuff that held the later mosquito bomber together. Any pics?

Probably Maple wood.
I suggest using a 2 part hard setting adhesive, just to fill the gaps.
I used a pair for daily riding in 1950 and they were indestructible, frequently in the rain.

Mmmmmm tasty stuff with proper cow’s bits in it.

Cascamite typical cabinet makers glue. Something similar may well have been used, but you are not re laminating, just fill the cracks with something you can rub down.

Have you tried a tub on them, BITD they had to have a blown up tub on the 100% of the time to keep them intact and round. Might close up, some of the gaps.

Where are you based ? I’ve worked in composites for 35 yrs and for some jobs use an SP 2 part epoxy which is actually intended for bonding teak decks ,I’ve also some small syringes,when warmed through it loses enough viscosity to be injected ,once cured it is bombproof,and has a tendency not to crack and be slightly absorbed by any woods ,it is a structural adhesive based upon an industrial Araldite [not the stupid tubes sold in corner shops],haven’t got data sheet to hand to name actual chemical constitutes,happy to post some
