Broke my Canal Virginity today

yep, Oakleys stayed on my head which was a bonus, phone is borked though plus the Canal Tour boat that went past right at that time had a good laugh at my expense

Glad you didn't omit the 'C' from canal in your thread title!

Might want to get your self checked for viles disease, pretty nasty by all accounts!

nearly been there myself when someone panicked and swerved to the right in front of me as I joined from a road bridge.

Not a fun experience, I feel for you!!

I was actually wondering today if you'd be able to unclip from SPD pedals if you fell into water.

Hows that for a coincidence?

Don't wish to be unkind, but surely if you were travelling at an appropriate speed, taking into account the consideration expected towards other users of said towpath, would you not have been able to avoid an early bath?

Is it not more a case of lack of anticipation rather than blame?

I used to cycle hundreds of miles along the paths running alongside the River Cam when I lived in Cambridge, shared with all manner of sporty types, families, Ramblers, dog walkers, Pikey horses etc, and never even came close to taking an unwanted dip... ;)

Well to answer your question I currently do around 400miles a month on the canal and have done for the last 18months spring, summer, winter etc.

It was just one of those things, I abide by the keep left rule he adibed by the left, right, left, left, right rule, I was actually going quite slow as it was by a well known bendbut he zipped round the corner forced me to the extreme right so when I went to put my foot down there was nothing but fresh air.

I had a laugh about it with him afterwards just one of those things.

The bike stayed dry, pedals worked a treat!

Least the important bits stayed dry.

I can't be the only one, after whatever major off I've had, first thoughts are how much damage have I done to the bike.
