Brodie Kinetic

hi
in the brochure they actually call that fork a gatorblade. looks like it was resurrected in 1999 in this new styling.

Stirrings.

Looking to finish this in the next few days. Still hankering after a definitive year of manufacture - catalogues in the archive show Kinetics first in the range from 1996 but with OEM suspension forks. This example came complete and unbuilt with the P2-like fork and matching paint job/decals, which may suggest end of 1995/pre-speccing of suspension for this model? I need to check if the geometry is the same as the suspension models or rigid-specific - what's the best way to do this?

With regard to Tange Prestige tubesets/decals - were there variations that indicated triple over double butted sets (I can't find reference to TBT)?

From the outlined decals on the downtube I'd guess late 90s early 2Ks. The fork is a Brodie unicrown. Flip the bike over and read the S/N. If it starts with a H, it was made at the Hodaka factory in Taiwan.
I agree with this. and as I stated above, brodie re-introduced the name gatorblade (groan) to the brodie unicrown fork in 1999. so if original to this bike it's no earlier than 1999.

It seems bizarre to think that Brodie would churn out such a basic rigid bike with a threaded fork later than 1999 - almost as though they were predicting a retro-revival! Would love to find a 1999/2000 catalogue to read the marketing promoting this model. If true I'm in the wrong section...

Re:

now I'm having my doubts. never noticed that it was threaded. both of my examples are threadless. unless someone threaded the steer tube on it, which is entirely possible it may not be a 1999+ brodie fork after all. but could be a painted and decalled p2. if you have a p2 handy do a side by side comparison and let us know results.
have you checked the serial number yet?

Okay, more information...

The P2 threaded fork has the same paint and has the matching 'b' (gold outlined) decals laquered.

Serial is 9551

There is an extra set of figures/letters - H8M1 = Hodaka-build. I have read on here that, on similarly-marked Kona, the first number equals the year of build - if correct for this Brodie might mean 1998.

However if we now think the frame and fork is 1995 that means all the post-96 groupset has to come off...
