Brodie Kinetic

WiP on the NOS Brodie Kinetic I received from Germany last year. Not entirely sure of the year of manufacture, although suspect it's mid-nineties, despite the threaded fork, which is definitely a sprayed up P2. I'm seeing it an Explosif equivalent, therefore fairly lowly in the Brodie scheme of things. Should make a good comparison when I get the 91 Explosif and the 93 Hot all running at the same time...

Pardon me Mr Mighty Moderator, but in what sense does bike in wrapping represent 'progress' since last year? You mean you've got it out of its box? Well I suppose that is progress of a sort, but not quite anything to boast about, I feel.

The fork appears to have a 39cm a-c, which dates it to 93 or earlier in the Kona scheme of things. I would say from the length of the head tube that the geometry might suggest a similar date for the frame, from the pre-suspension era. Although it is a huge frame, so difficult to tell much.

;-)

Indeed out of its box.... but there is more! It's now in the LBS having a BB and the headest installed, then it can be screwed together in the cellar on a slightly speedier schedule.

I'm looking forward to your analysis of this frame compared to an equivalent year Kona - it's Tange MTB double butted and the main difference I can see is in the intersection of the rear seat stays, which adjoin the top tube/seat tube above the sight line of the top tube. Maybe it is earlier than I thought...

Yes it looks huge in this photo - but that is mainly due to the unpressed headset. The 93 Hot looks to be exactly the same geometry/size when held against it and that doesn't look so huge (to me). I'll get the tape on it when I get it back.

Component wise it will be a parts bin special - I have a Brodie bar but would like to source more Brodie components if they exist.

watch you don't inadvertantley kick that q/r under the cooker neil.

From the outlined decals on the downtube I'd guess late 90s early 2Ks. The fork is a Brodie unicrown. Flip the bike over and read the S/N. If it starts with a H, it was made at the Hodaka factory in Taiwan.
